Kyodo News Reports "South Korea-Japan Summit Meeting in Early May"
The Presidential Office stated on the 28th (local time) regarding reports of Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio's visit to Korea in early May that "nothing has been decided."
A senior official from the Presidential Office responded to reporters at a press center set up in a hotel in Boston, USA, that day, regarding the possibility of Prime Minister Kishida's visit.
Earlier, Kyodo News reported that Prime Minister Kishida is scheduled to visit Korea on May 7-8 for a Korea-Japan summit. The last visit by a Japanese prime minister to Korea was in February 2018, when Prime Minister Abe Shinzo attended the opening ceremony of the PyeongChang Olympics.
Prime Minister Kishida's visit to Korea is seen as a reciprocal visit following President Yoon's trip to Japan. Recently, Prime Minister Kishida also stated, "This time, I must go. I want to cherish Korea-Japan relations."
