Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will hold a welfare benefits briefing for seniors at the district office auditorium at 1:30 PM on the 28th.
As of March this year, the population of seniors aged 65 and over residing in Nowon-gu is approximately 93,000, ranking third among Seoul’s autonomous districts, accounting for 18.5% of the district’s total population.
The district has prepared this event to introduce various welfare programs implemented by the government and local authorities to local seniors, including those born in 1958 who are newly entering the senior welfare target group, and to help them properly utilize these benefits.
The briefing will be conducted in two parts over about an hour. The first part features a public lecture for seniors. Gong Sang-gil, Director of Namyangju City Northern Disabled Welfare Center, will discuss social participation in old age with seniors under the title “Desirable Old Age, Beautiful Senior Citizens.”
Following this, the second part will cover “Welfare Policies You Should Know When Turning 65,” where Tak Heung-jun, Head of Nowon-gu Senior Welfare Division, will provide information on various welfare services offered by the national and local governments, explain how to apply, and hold a Q&A session.
To assist seniors’ understanding, the district will produce and distribute a booklet titled 'Nowon The+Hagi' summarizing senior welfare policies and benefits in one volume to attendees.
The booklet introduces application and usage methods for 48 policies across five areas?senior living, senior employment, senior health, senior care, and senior social participation and cultural activities?in large, easy-to-read print for seniors.
It includes 46 pages covering government support programs such as basic pension, emergency retirement funds loan program, and long-term care insurance for the elderly, as well as Nowon-gu’s unique senior policies and welfare benefits like the mobile health bus, Nowon-style senior jobs, and Nowon Senior Happiness Corporation.
After the briefing, a survey will be conducted among attendees on topics including ‘Senior Leisure and Cultural Life,’ ‘Satisfaction with Current Senior Welfare Policies,’ ‘Preference for Projects Planned for 2023,’ and ‘Demand for Desired Welfare Programs and Cultural Facilities.’ The results will be actively reflected in future senior policies of the district.
Prior to the briefing, the district recruited attendees among seniors aged 65 and over and residents. As a result, over 600 people applied, far exceeding the initially planned 300, leading to the arrangement of additional seating in the 6th-floor small auditorium and live streaming of the briefing video.
Additionally, to share information with residents unable to attend in person, the briefing will be uploaded on Nowon-gu’s official YouTube channel ‘Mihongssi,’ and extra copies of the booklet distributed at the briefing will be made available at community service centers and senior-related institutions.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “While preparing the briefing for new seniors born in 1958, the response was so enthusiastic that we expanded the target to all seniors. We will continue to implement user-centered, customized welfare projects and actively promote them so that no one misses out on benefits due to lack of awareness.”
Eunpyeong-gu Holds Healing Spring Walk with Forest Interpreter for Heads of Veterans Organizations
Walking Through Cypress Forest on Bongsan Barrier-Free Trail While Listening to Forest Interpreter
Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that it held a spring outing event with a forest interpreter for heads of veterans organizations on the 26th to welcome the warm spring.
The event, organized to promote unity and harmony among heads of veterans organizations, was a healing time walking through the cypress forest on the Bongsan barrier-free forest trail in Eunpyeong-gu while listening to explanations from a forest interpreter.
The Eunpyeong-gu Veterans Hall located in Jingwan-dong houses nine statutory organizations including the Liberation Association, Disabled Veterans Association, Bereaved Families of War Veterans Association, Widows of War Veterans Association, Meritorious Service Association, Special Mission Meritorious Service Association, Agent Orange Veterans Association, Korean War Veterans Association, and Vietnam War Veterans Association.
The Bongsan cypress barrier-free forest trail in Eunpyeong-gu is the only cypress forest of its kind in Korea. It has no slopes, making it a refreshing place where people of all ages can walk comfortably like a stroll. The event was conducted with consideration for the safety of the mostly elderly heads of veterans organizations.
A district official said, “We hope this event serves as a small comfort for the health and happy daily lives of the heads of veterans organizations. We plan to hold various events for veterans in the future.”
