President Joe Biden officially announced his candidacy for the U.S. presidential election to be held in November next year.
In a three-minute video released on the 25th (local time), President Biden said, "I hope voters will give me more time to finish the job (as president)."
He especially stated, "The war to restore the spirit of America is still ongoing," and added, "The most important freedoms for us (Americans) are still under threat. It is not yet time to be complacent."
As a Democrat, President Biden confirmed his candidacy despite concerns that his age of 80 could be a burden. He served as vice president under the Barack Obama administration for eight years starting in 2009, and ran in the November 2020 presidential election, defeating then-President Donald Trump to become the 46th president of the United States. Former President Trump also declared his third presidential run last November.
