Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, has developed the representative characters ‘Cheongi and Songi’ to promote the region and strengthen its competitiveness, and officially announced them through the county office website and the Cheongsong News Bulletin.
The county recognized the need for representative characters that would serve as promotional ambassadors for the local government by attracting public interest with a cute and friendly image, and began developing new representative characters in 2021 to respond to various trends in new media.
To reflect the local characteristics in the characters, Cheongsong-gun designed a storyline and carefully considered the character colors, expressions, and movements to harmonize with the clean image of the ‘Oxygen Cafe Cheongsong-gun,’ selecting various character candidates through this development process.
Next, after conducting surveys among employees regarding naming, popularity, and future utilization plans, the ‘Cheongi and Songi’ characters were finally developed.
Born in Cheongsong, a brand powerhouse that has won the grand prize in the apple category for 11 consecutive years and the urban brand category for 4 consecutive years at the 2023 Representative Brand Awards, ‘Cheongi and Songi’ represent the red and yellow Cheongsong apples.
The faces of ‘Cheongi and Songi’ depict the fresh flesh of Cheongsong apples, while the brown stems and green leaves on their heads show the characteristics of high-quality Cheongsong apples grown while breathing clear and healthy air.
Going forward, ‘Cheongi and Songi’ will take the lead in welcoming tourists and promoting not only Cheongsong apples but also agricultural specialties and Cheongsong itself. They are already active in places promoting county administration announcements and events, attracting curiosity from both residents and tourists and receiving positive responses.
In particular, the characters are simple and easy to remember, immediately bringing Cheongsong apples to mind upon seeing them, and their names instantly evoke Cheongsong. These features are expected to act as a positive factor in promoting Cheongsong-gun.
County Governor Yoon Kyung-hee said, “Through ‘Cheongi and Songi,’ the friendly and clean image of Cheongsong-gun will spread nationwide, greatly helping to strengthen brand competitiveness,” and added, “We will gradually increase the utilization of the representative characters to ensure they significantly contribute to regional promotion and development.”
