AI System Established at Incheon Airport Security Checkpoint
AI Utilized from Manufacturing Plants to Logistics Centers
Collaboration with MS to Expand Generative AI Business
LG CNS's artificial intelligence (AI) technology has been applied at the security screening checkpoints of Incheon Airport, known for its stringent security measures. Through an X-ray image automatic interpretation system, AI identifies prohibited items such as explosives and liquids. Previously, security personnel visually inspected X-ray images to determine the presence of hazardous materials, but now AI assists in this process. Having learned from tens of thousands of images, the AI accurately detects small objects under 3cm as well as items entangled with earphone cords.
Vision AI Judges Defective Products and Verifies Delivery Items
LG CNS's vision AI technology, 'DAP (Data Analytics & AI Platform) Vision,' is active across various industrial sites. The AI, trained on images of both normal and defective products, handles tasks ranging from defect detection in manufacturing plants to verifying delivery items at logistics centers.
In cases like glass substrates for displays, where even very fine scratches affect quality, the AI's accuracy shines. Unlike humans, whose visual inspections may vary slightly depending on skill level or internal standards, AI reduces judgment errors. AI vision technology is also used to detect foreign substances on production lines. AI vision solutions connected to high-resolution cameras or thermal imaging cameras automatically detect contaminants. The judgment results are monitored and the AI is retrained to ensure continuous performance management. LG affiliates such as LG Energy Solution and LG Chem have applied vision inspection in their manufacturing processes.

AI is also deployed in logistics. It checks whether products are properly prepared before shipping and sorts cargo according to specifications. AI can verify product composition in just 0.1 seconds, enabling rapid delivery even amid surging orders. After verification, it distinguishes not only the size but also the shape and type of items to select the appropriate parcel cargo. Lotte Global Logistics' Jincheon logistics center has implemented this AI cargo sorting system.
In office spaces, AI enhances work productivity through virtual personal assistant chatbots. LG CNS offers customizable chatbots as Software as a Service (SaaS) that can be integrated not only with internal employees but also with external partners such as suppliers and dealerships. For example, internal chatbots assist new employees with work guidance or handle year-end tax settlement inquiries, while external chatbots manage supplier inventory checks and customer inquiries. Multiple chatbots can be configured and operated simultaneously according to business purposes.
Accelerating Collaboration with MS... Developing New ChatGPT Services
Following the release of ChatGPT and the increasing number of companies adopting it, LG CNS moved swiftly. It partnered with Microsoft (MS), a leader in the generative AI market, to begin service development. Generative AI learns from existing data such as documents, voice, and images to create new content.
LG CNS plans to apply AI technology provided by MS's 'Azure OpenAI Service.' Azure OpenAI Service is an AI service offered by MS through its cloud platform 'Azure.' Based on technology from the U.S. startup OpenAI, which developed ChatGPT, it provides various functions including language understanding, image analysis, and sentiment analysis.

To this end, the two companies formed a dedicated AI service development team by gathering AI and cloud experts. LG CNS is responsible for developing services such as the futuristic customer consultation center AICC (AI Contact Center) and knowledge chatbots that deliver information in specific fields. MS provides consulting and technical support. Since the release of ChatGPT, there has been growing demand from companies to train AI on their own data to implement customized chatbots, and this collaboration aims to meet that demand.
LG CNS plans to explore new AI business opportunities across various sectors including manufacturing, finance, distribution, e-commerce, and gaming. The company aspires to jointly discover AI application areas and technologies with its clients. Hyun Shin-kyun, CEO of LG CNS, stated, "Based on MS's innovative cloud infrastructure, data analytics, and Azure OpenAI technology, we will rapidly develop new AI services and lead the market."
