Financial authorities have launched a task force (TF) to support victims in response to the nationwide spread of Jeonse fraud.
According to financial authorities on the 23rd, the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) has formed the "Jeonse Fraud Victim Support TF" led by Lee Junsu, Deputy Governor for Banking and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises. This TF is composed of ▲General and External Affairs Team ▲Auction Postponement Inspection Team ▲Comprehensive Financial Support Center Operation Team.
The General and External Affairs Team oversees the TF operations, including chairing meetings, the Auction Postponement Inspection Team checks auction or sale postponements related to Jeonse fraud across all financial sectors, and the Comprehensive Financial Support Center Operation Team handles counseling and listens to difficulties of Jeonse fraud victims.
The TF plans to share all gathered information in real-time with related government departments. Additionally, through the Comprehensive Financial Support Center, it intends to guide victims on support programs implemented by related ministries such as the Financial Services Commission (including policy financial institutions) and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (including HUG).
According to the FSS, the "Jeonse Fraud Victim Comprehensive Financial Support Center" established at the Yeouido headquarters and Incheon branch on the 21st handled a total of 38 consultations regarding auction and sale postponement measures for Jeonse fraud houses. Among these, 18 cases were related to Jeonse fraud victims in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, including 6 consultations about whether the auction or sale postponement applied, progress, and handling directions, and 12 inquiries about loan debt adjustments and support requirements such as maturity extensions by financial companies. Consultations on Jeonse fraud victims in other regions totaled 20 cases, with 4 inquiries about auction or sale postponement and 2 about financial support.
Meanwhile, the FSS requested through financial sector associations to apply for sale postponement and extension of sale dates for bond sales and auctions on residences of Jeonse fraud victims in Michuhol-gu, Incheon. Of the 59 cases in Michuhol-gu with sale dates on the 20th and 21st, all but 4 cases that failed auction were postponed (55 cases). The 4 failed cases were all with small-scale non-performing loan (NPL) operators, and authorities are cooperating to postpone their auction dates.
