Song of 'Freedom' resisting social constraints
Group BTS member Suga (30, Min Yoon-gi) released his first official solo album on the 21st.
On the 21st, his agency Big Hit Music announced that Suga released his solo album 'D-DAY' at 1 p.m. and unveiled the music video.
This album is Suga's personal work released about three years after his mixtape (non-regular album) 'D-2' in May 2020. It is the final work of the trilogy continuing from the mixtape 'Agust D' released in 2016.
'D-DAY' includes 10 tracks such as the title track 'Haegeum', the collaboration song with IU 'People Pt.2' which was pre-released on the 7th, 'D-DAY', 'HUH?!' featuring member J-Hope, 'Gukya', and 'Snooze' featuring Ryuichi Sakamoto and Kim Woo-sung of The Rose.
Suga led the entire production of the album, from writing and composing all the songs to producing the album, embedding his own story. The title track 'Haegeum' utilizes the sound of the traditional Korean instrument haegeum, which appears in the vocals and lyrics. Suga also used the haegeum sound in the title track 'Daechwita' of 'D-2'.
Big Hit Music introduced, "Through this album, Suga conveys a message to focus on 'myself' and 'the present' in an era overflowing with excessively fast and vast information."
Following 'Daechwita' in 2020, the title track 'Haegeum' uses the sound of the traditional Korean instrument haegeum and the double meaning of 'lifting a ban' (解禁) to pose the theme of freedom to people constrained by various restrictions and limitations in daily life and society.
The released 'Haegeum' music video creates a noir film-like atmosphere by using tense dramatic elements. Suga played dual roles and delivered a passionate performance in the music video.
Suga will start his world tour 'SUGA | Agust D-DAY TOUR' from June 26-27 at Belmont Park in the United States, followed by Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, and Seoul, South Korea.
