Gucci Employee Fired for Bragging on SNS About Receiving Gucci Bag as Joining Gift

Bags Worth Tens of Millions of Won, Clothing Sets, Shoes, etc.
Turns Out They Were Promotional Items, Not Personal Use
Dismissed Amid Scandal... "I Didn't Want to Work Anyway"

A new employee at the Italian luxury brand Gucci store was fired by Gucci headquarters after boasting about free onboarding gifts worth tens of millions of won on social networking services (SNS).

According to the US online media outlet The In The Know on the 21st (local time), Melanie, a new employee at the Gucci store in Los Angeles, California, posted a video introducing Gucci onboarding gifts on the short-form video platform TikTok earlier this month.

In this video, new employee Melanie said she received a set of bags and clothing worth tens of millions of won from Gucci. The products she received included luxury bags, belts, four pairs of socks, three blouses, two pairs of pants, two blazers, loafers, and sneakers?all Gucci products.

However, the luxury gift set given to Melanie by Gucci was not a personal gift or for personal use, but a uniform provided by Gucci to employees for product promotion purposes.

The video showing that she received Gucci products worth tens of millions of won for free quickly spread on SNS by word of mouth. Gucci headquarters also became aware of this news, and the next day, Melanie was notified of her dismissal according to headquarters' instructions.

In a subsequent video posted after her dismissal, Melanie said, "I was not angry about Gucci's decision," and added, "When I first joined Gucci, they gave me guidelines on SNS use, but I did not read them because I did not want to do this job." She also claimed, "When I was offered a job at Gucci, I was not enthusiastic about it, but I accepted it for a stable job."

Finally, Melanie said, "Actually, I agreed to quit Gucci," and added, "I will build my empire (like the Italian luxury brand Gucci)."
