The ‘SW Industry-Academia Campus Code-Alpha,’ which will serve as a foothold for nurturing local software talent, held its opening ceremony on the 21st at the Suseong Alpha City Smart City Center and officially began operations.
The opening ceremony was attended by Lee Jong-hwa, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs of Daegu City; National Assembly members Joo Ho-young and Hong Seok-jun; Kang Do-hyun, Director of the Information and Communications Policy Office at the Ministry of Science and ICT; Jung Soo-jin, Director of the National IT Industry Promotion Agency; Kim Yoo-hyun, Director of the Daegu Digital Innovation Promotion Agency; as well as about 140 local software company representatives and university students.
Daegu City and the Ministry of Science and ICT plan to invest a total budget of 11.2 billion KRW over five years from 2022 to 2026 to promote the ‘Local Industry Software Talent Development Infrastructure Project’ aimed at nurturing local software talent and stabilizing local companies.
The ‘SW Industry-Academia Campus Code-Alpha’ is established in Suseong Alpha City, where local software companies are concentrated, and will provide core infrastructure for software talent development.
This project aims to nurture 890 advanced software talents, support 183 industry-academia cooperation software project tasks, and achieve a local retention rate of software talent of over 30%, based on a regional industry-academia-government collaboration system.
It is also expected to greatly contribute to strengthening corporate competitiveness and balanced regional development through practical talent cultivation tailored to the needs of local companies.
The Daegu Digital Innovation Promotion Agency, a local software industry promotion organization, along with the participating consortium (Kyungpook National University, Keimyung University, Yeungnam College of Science & Technology), plans to utilize the newly opened ‘SW Industry-Academia Campus’ infrastructure to provide various educational programs such as degree courses for employees within the software cluster and industry-linked projects for local university undergraduates.
At the opening ceremony, there was also a presentation showcasing the achievements of industry-academia cooperation projects jointly conducted by last year’s participating companies Woogyeong Information Technology Co., Ltd. and N Garden Co., Ltd., as well as this year’s selected companies YH Database Co., Ltd., Beomil Information Co., Ltd., Shilla System Co., Ltd., and Digi Entertainment Co., Ltd., together with local university undergraduates. Projects planned for this year were also introduced.
Additionally, an AI special lecture for participating university undergraduates attracted attention by sharing the latest trends in the era of mega-scale AI, including Chat GPT, AI application cases, and AI technology trends.
Lee Jong-hwa, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs of Daegu City, said, “The core competitiveness in the ‘digital transformation era,’ where industries are rapidly reorganized based on digital technology, is talent,” adding, “We will focus on timely nurturing practical software talents desired by companies to strengthen the competitiveness of local companies.”
