60s French Man Barehand Climbs 38-Story Building, Says "Opposes Retirement Age Extension"

Climber Alain Robert Scales Paris Skyscraper
"Macron, Try Climbing Without Safety Net," He Criticizes

Attention is focused on a French man in his 60s who climbed a 38-story high-rise building with his bare hands. Alain Robert (60), a famous climber, emphasized that this building climb was a 'message' to French President Emmanuel Macron.

The British media outlet The Guardian reported on the 20th (local time) that Robert climbed a high-rise building in Paris, France, without any safety equipment. The building is 150 meters tall.

After completing the climb, Robert stated, "I climbed the building to support protesters opposing pension reform." Earlier, when President Macron pushed through a pension reform bill extending the pension eligibility age from 62 to 64 by two years, protests against it broke out across France.

Regarding this, Robert said, "I want to tell President Macron to climb down to the ground after climbing without any equipment." This is interpreted as a statement implying that pushing pension reform without proper additional social safety nets is no different from climbing without safety equipment.

In particular, Robert expressed concern that the change in pension eligibility age would deal an additional blow to French workers who lost income after COVID-19.

President Macron promulgated the pension reform law on the 15th. However, public opinion in France remains sharply divided, and protests continue. Sophie Binet, head of the CGT, France's largest labor union, also announced plans for further action on the 28th.

Meanwhile, Robert is known for having climbed 150 high-rise buildings worldwide. Wearing his distinctive red outfit while climbing buildings, he is also famous by the nickname 'French Spiderman.'

He has climbed landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, USA, and the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
