Jeju Maritime Police Agency (Chief So Byung-yong) announced on the 21st that on the 20th, it held the ‘2023 Jeju Regional Oil Spill Response Council Regular Meeting’ composed of civilian and government members on the 2nd floor conference room of the Jeju Maritime Police Station to establish a prompt and smooth cooperative response system for large-scale marine pollution incidents.

The Jeju Regional Oil Spill Response Council is an ad hoc council based on the Marine Environment Management Act, established to ensure smooth cooperation and support in the event of marine pollution incidents in the Jeju area. It is composed of 15 organizations including the chairman, the Chief of Jeju Maritime Police Agency, Jeju City, the Marine Fisheries Office, Jeju National University, and fisheries-related research institutes.
The main agenda of this regular meeting included in-depth discussions on the oil spill response plans in preparation for marine pollution incidents, coordination of personnel, materials, equipment, and treatment facility support necessary for response measures, technical advice on marine pollution response, and matters related to the mobilization and operation of oil spill response equipment held by both civilian and government sectors.
A Jeju Maritime Police official stated, “Through the annual regular meetings, we will strengthen the cooperative system with related organizations and devote all efforts to maintaining a prompt and effective response system in the event of marine pollution incidents.”
