Promotion Campaign for Bicycle Day Celebration
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held a bicycle riding public campaign around the city hall on the 21st to promote carbon neutrality and encourage bicycle use in celebration of the 13th Bicycle Day.
April 22nd every year is designated as 'Bicycle Day,' established as a legal commemorative day in June 2010 to address environmental issues and promote public health. This day is also known as 'Earth Day.'
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam conducted a citizen promotion campaign to encourage bicycle riding for carbon neutrality practice and the activation of bicycle use.
The campaign was conducted by riding Nubija bicycles. Staff wore sashes with the slogan "Ride a bicycle, reduce carbon" to be visible to citizens and toured the bicycle paths around the city hall and Seongsan Art Hall. At the busy City Hall intersection, they encouraged people to use bicycles regularly to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promoted the convenience of Nubija, the shared bicycle system.
To create an environmentally sound and sustainable eco-city, the city has been operating about 500 public bicycles called Nubija since October 2008, before Bicycle Day was established. This year, a complete overhaul of the system, including shared bicycles and docking methods, will be completed by September to make it more convenient for citizens to use.
Jo Myeong-rae, the 2nd Deputy Mayor, said, "On the occasion of the 13th Bicycle Day, I hope citizens actively participate in using bicycles for carbon neutrality and health," and added, "We will do our best to ensure that Changwon citizens can use bicycles safely and comfortably in the future."
