‘2023 Gaehwasan Spring Flower Festival’ Returns Newly After 4 Years

Spring Flower and Starlight Festival Held on the 22nd at Banghwa Neighborhood Park

Busking, Light Art and Landscape Lighting, Magic Shows, and More New and Enriched Content

Transforming from a Festival of Eating and Drinking to a Regionally Specialized Festival Pleasing to the Eyes and Ears

The Gaehwasan Spring Flower Festival returns after 4 years with newer and richer content.

Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Tae-woo) announced that on the 22nd, starting at 4 p.m., the ‘2023 Gaehwasan Spring Flower Festival’ will be held at Banghwa Neighborhood Park with the theme of spring flowers and starlight.

Marking its 10th year, the Gaehwasan Spring Flower Festival is a representative spring festival in the southwestern part of Seoul, held in beautiful urban nature, and is taking place for the first time in 4 years since COVID-19.

Especially, Mayor Kim, who took office last year, promised a complete overhaul of local festivals that lacked distinctiveness and only wasted budgets on eating and drinking, emphasizing that the Gaehwasan Spring Flower Festival would be prepared as a differentiated, resident-centered festival breaking away from the existing format.

This year, under the slogan “New Gangseo, Into the New Spring and New Light~,” the festival will proceed without the rigid formats such as opening ceremonies and guest introductions, focusing on a dignified, resident-centered festival.

First, busking performances that delight residents’ eyes and ears will be held continuously from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at three zones: the main stage zone, food truck zone, and pond zone.

Master of soap bubbles, magician Lee Joo-hwan, will present three participatory magic shows titled ‘Real Magic & Bubble Show’ for children attending the festival.

Additionally, indie bands such as the lively jazz band ‘Rich Pie,’ ‘Today Clear,’ which offers beautiful music with vocals and piano, and ‘3.14 Band,’ expressing the innocent moments of their twenties through music, will elevate the festival’s atmosphere with rich performances.

At 6:30 p.m., as it begins to get dark, the newly introduced spectacular landscape lighting at Banghwa Neighborhood Park will be turned on simultaneously, bathing the entire park in beautiful light.

The light art and lighting exhibition will continue until May 7, transforming Banghwa Neighborhood Park into a nighttime scenic spot.

Moreover, the venue will operate flea markets divided into four zones run by children, local artists, small business owners, and seniors, and an exhibition of poetry and paintings by local elementary students themed on saving the global environment will be held.

Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “Our district has many festivals such as the Gaehwasan Spring Flower Festival and Heo Jun Festival, but we will completely change all festivals that simply repeat the past and waste budgets,” adding, “We will do our best to promote our region nationwide through festivals and revitalize the local economy.”

He continued, “We hope everyone enjoys the renewed Gaehwasan Spring Flower Festival to the fullest with family, lovers, and friends.”
