"Prosecutors leaking recordings to interfere politically"
Former leader Song Young-gil expected to return soon
Seo Young-kyo, a Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated on the 18th regarding the money envelope allegations at the party convention, "After checking the mentioned lawmakers, they said there was absolutely no such fact."
Seo said on KBS Radio's 'Choi Kyung-young's Strong Current Affairs' on the same day, "Although not everyone was checked, I checked one person and they said it was absolutely not true and baseless," adding, "We are quietly checking within the party."
Seo predicted that former party leader Song Young-gil would return soon and express his position. He said, "Since the initial thoughts of former leader Song and the recordings or such contents are somewhat different, he is taking it seriously," and added, "Since he says he doesn't know about it, he will understand the situation and come early to resolve it."
In response to the host's question, "If money was given, to what kind of figures would it have been given?" Seo replied, "I don't know whether money was given or not," but added, "There is no reason to give money to unclear people."
Seo said, "Since the recording contents are somewhat ambiguous, I cannot comment much, but you cannot buy votes by giving money," and added, "In the past, during the time of lawmaker Park Hee-tae and others, it might have been an act of buying votes, but the current party convention is where individuals decide and give votes themselves, so it cannot be called vote-buying."
He then claimed that the prosecution is interfering in politics through the investigation. Seo said, "Isn't it the prosecution that is leaking the recordings?" and added, "The prosecution is putting this matter into the political situation while conducting the investigation." He continued, "Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon should also point out that it is inappropriate for such investigations to be leaked like this," and said, "Last year, a person named Lee Jeong-geun was indicted and the trial has ended now; if they were going to do something, it should have all come out then."
Seo added, "Representative Lee and our party have endured countless hardships," and said, "At this point, despite being on trial, many citizens are supporting Lee Jae-myung, believing it was a political investigation or fabrication."
