Yeongdeok-gun Holds 'Boksakkot Big Festival'... Strengthening Community Unity

Fostering Community Harmony and Enhancing Local Culture as a Catalyst for Regional Development

Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongbuk, celebrated the 26th anniversary of Residents' Day on the 17th by hosting the 28th Boksa Flower Grand Festival under the theme "A Happy Yeongdeok for Residents Achieved through New Changes and Harmony."

The event, held at Yeongdeok Residents' Sports Ground, kicked off successfully with a street parade featuring a military band, General Sindolseok's procession, and the Osipcheon Pungmul group, attended by over 10,000 residents.


Following this, a simultaneous entrance performance by residents, the Residents' Day commemorative ceremony, and a harmony rope weaving event with Yeongdeok Wolwolicheongcheong and the Osipcheon Pungmul group took place, creating a venue of unity for Yeongdeok residents, expatriates, and citizens from sister cities after the COVID-19 pandemic.


Additionally, various folk games such as Yutnori, Tuho, rubber shoe basket tossing, traditional janggi (Korean chess), and jegichagi (shuttlecock kicking), as well as competitions like gateball and giant peach rolling, were held in a lively manner. The main events concluded with a harmony tug-of-war, a team competition integrating the eup and myeon districts.


Moreover, cultural events included a student writing and drawing contest, showcasing enthusiastic competitions among elementary, middle, and high school students. Side events offered diverse experiences such as multicultural food tasting, free distribution of Boksa flower-themed food, rice cake pounding experience, free tasting and discounted sales of Korean beef, tea and beverage sampling, moxibustion and acupressure volunteer services, health promotion booths, image photo shoots, social enterprise promotion booths, and a flea market led by the Yeongdeok Mom Cafe, providing participants with enjoyable sights and tastes.


County Governor Kim Gwang-yeol said, "At this precious time when Boksa flowers are in full bloom and Yeongdeok's culture is also flourishing, I am deeply moved to have been able to prepare a grand festival where residents and expatriates come together as one." He added, "Just as happiness doubles and difficulties halve when we come together, through this harmony event, we will unite Yeongdeok-gun’s strength and potential to create an opportunity for regional development."
