Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choo Kyung-ho stated on the 17th that "the government will proactively consider extending the fuel tax reduction measure."
During a plenary session of the National Assembly's Planning and Finance Committee, Deputy Prime Minister Choo responded to a question from Bae Jun-young, a member of the People Power Party, regarding the fuel tax reduction by saying, "We will proactively and seriously reconsider the request to extend the fuel tax reduction from the perspective of alleviating the public's financial burden." The People Power Party also demanded the government to extend the fuel tax reduction measure earlier that morning.
The government's fuel tax reduction measure, which reduces gasoline by 25% and diesel by 37%, is scheduled to end at the end of this month.
