Seongheon Lee, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, Engages in Candid Dialogue by Taking Resident Questions Without Prior Comments



Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Seongheon Lee) held a briefing session on current projects for a 100% Happy Seodaemun on the afternoon of the 13th at the 6th-floor auditorium of the district office.


Mayor Lee responded sincerely to various questions through an open and candid conversation with representatives of professional organizations, community leaders, and attending residents.


Departing from the usual format of giving prior comments or project explanations before taking questions, the mayor started the briefing by immediately taking questions from residents and answering them.


A district official explained that this approach reflects Mayor Lee’s determination to listen to residents’ voices as much as possible within the limited time.

During the briefing, Mayor Lee provided detailed answers on key issues such as ▲the relocation of Station 102 on the Seobu Line light rail ▲the undergrounding and three-dimensional complex development of the Gajwa Station?Seoul Station section of the Gyeongui Line ▲the integrated development of Inwang Market and Yujin Shopping Center ▲the overpass construction ▲and the creation of Baekryeonsan Park Golf Course.


He also addressed questions regarding rapid housing reconstruction, wildfire prevention, village bus route adjustments, streetlight brightness and improvement of odors in living areas, and strengthening children’s traffic safety facilities.


Mayor Lee expressed regret that “some projects have become political issues” and said, “I hope the local political community will unite beyond party interests to focus solely on making residents happy and comfortable.”


He also stated, “Even planned projects will not proceed if residents do not want them.”


Seodaemun-gu plans to consider holding such briefings regularly, as direct communication between the mayor and residents helps with project implementation and progress management.

Taewoo Kim, Mayor of Gangseo-gu, Seoul, attended the ‘Joint Elementary School Commuting Safety Inspection’ held at Gayang Elementary School on the 13th, accelerating efforts to make Gangseo a child-friendly district.


On this day, Mayor Kim discussed matters for smooth joint traffic safety inspections at elementary schools with Wonshil Lee, Superintendent of Gangseo Yangcheon Office of Education, Wontae Kim, Chief of Gangseo Police Station, and Sunggi Park, Principal of Seoul Gayang Elementary School.

The joint elementary school traffic safety inspection is a project in which a joint inspection team composed of the district office, Gangseo Police Station, Gangseo Yangcheon Office of Education, and Korea Transportation Safety Authority conducts safety inspections of school routes at 32 elementary schools in the area until May 25.


At the event, Mayor Kim emphasized cooperation among related agencies to ensure children’s safety.


Mayor Kim said, “The importance of creating a safe walking environment for children is further emphasized following a recent drunk driving accident in a school zone in one area. We will do our utmost to secure pedestrian safety through this joint inspection.”


Meanwhile, the district operates the nation’s first ‘Children’s Safe School Commute Task Force with Public Officials,’ focusing on preventing school zone accidents and creating safe routes to school.

The Children’s Nation, the first of its kind nationwide, has had a total of 510 participants through its first seven terms.

Participates in Dual Events Supporting Care for Disabled and Rest for Caregivers Hosted by Dongdaemun-gu Facilities Management Corporation on the 13th



Pilhyung Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, participated on the 13th in the ‘2023 Warm Companionship, Happy Dongdaemun for All’ campaign, a dual event supporting care for the disabled and rest for caregivers, hosted by the Dongdaemun-gu Facilities Management Corporation.


The campaign is a social contribution initiative by the Dongdaemun-gu Facilities Management Corporation aimed at companionship and harmony between disabled and non-disabled people. It is the first dual event held by a local public enterprise to simultaneously support care for the disabled and rest for caregivers.

The campaign was divided into an off-site event for people with developmental disabilities and an on-site event for parents of disabled individuals. The off-site event was held at Cheongpung Youth Hostel for users of facilities and services operated by the Howl Association, while the on-site event at the Seoul Korean Medicine Promotion Center featured programs such as foot baths, herbal medicine experience, and herbal tea making for 20 parents of disabled individuals.


Mayor Lee participated in the off-site event at Cheongpung Youth Hostel in Jecheon, engaging in activities such as making Cheongpung bibimbap, five-grain gangjeong, and a cheerful companionship sports day with people with developmental disabilities.


Mayor Pilhyung Lee said, “Participating directly in such a meaningful event gave me much to reflect on. We will continue to support so that disabled people can be fully integrated members of society and their families can be relieved of caregiving burdens. We will do our best to create a Dongdaemun-gu where everyone is happy by walking together with society’s vulnerable.”




Mapo-gu Holds Civil Defense Leader Basic Training in Person for the First Time in Four Years



Mapo-gu (Mayor Kangsoo Park) conducted basic civil defense training for about 250 civil defense leaders on the afternoon of the 13th at the Mapo-gu Office auditorium.


This training was held in person for the first time in four years due to COVID-19, and included reading the civil defense oath followed by four hours of training on civil defense knowledge, earthquakes and chemical/biological/radiological defense, and first aid.

Mayor Park Kangsoo said in his greeting, “At a time when national security and safety concerns are rising, preparation to overcome local crises is more important than ever.
