Familiarization training is designed to improve on-site understanding by pre-identifying the characteristics of vessels within the jurisdictional waters. It aims to protect the lives and property of the public through rapid rescue in the event of serious maritime accidents, such as fishing vessel capsizing or onboard isolation, where human casualties are a concern.
The Jeju Maritime Police conducted the familiarization training together with Chief Lee Sang-in and rescue team members from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. the previous day at the Jeju Maritime Police exclusive pier.
The training included intensive exercises such as pre-identifying onboard structures and characteristics of each vessel to pioneer entry routes, identifying hazardous elements like fishing gear by understanding vessel operation characteristics, confirming individual duties and teamwork for each situation in case of maritime accidents, and underwater search and rescue as well as comprehensive rope rescue during accidents.
A Jeju Maritime Police official stated, “Through focused training to strengthen on-site response capabilities, we are establishing the best possible foundation to respond immediately in any situation and will do our utmost to protect the lives and property of the public at sea.”
