Achieved Cumulative Sales of Over 42 Billion Won in 5 Years Since Opening
"We will focus on creating new tourism industries in cooperation with the city and private companies centered on the Sacheon Sea Cable Car."
The Sacheon Sea Cable Car, which has established itself as a representative tourist attraction in Sacheon City, Gyeongnam, will celebrate its 5th anniversary on April 13.
The Sacheon Sea Cable Car has become the nation's top five-sense satisfying marine cable car, earning the title of a new marine tourism landmark in Korea and rapidly emerging as Sacheon's future 50-year food source tourism industry.
It opened on April 13, 2018, surpassing 100,000 passengers in just 23 days, and reached 1 million passengers in about 350 days, less than a year after opening.
Although it faced a major crisis due to COVID-19, proactive promotional marketing in preparation for the post-COVID era led to a record sales of 6.5 billion KRW last year.
This was an increase of 1.5 billion KRW compared to 2021, solidifying its reputation.
To date, it has achieved a total cumulative passenger count of approximately 2.9 million and total cumulative sales of about 42 billion KRW, greatly contributing to the revitalization of the surrounding commercial districts and local economy that had been stagnant.
◆ The Secret to Sacheon Sea Cable Car's Popularity
The Sacheon Sea Cable Car is a new type of cable car that combines the advantages of the Yeosu Cable Car, which crosses the sea from land to island, and the Tongyeong Cable Car, which ascends from land to mountain, like a comprehensive gift.
It operates in a circular route from Daebang Station opposite Samcheonpo Bridge to Choyang Station, Gaksan Station, and back to Daebang Station, offering a thrilling crossing of Sacheon Bay and a fantastic view, providing a comprehensive five-sense satisfaction service concept.
Everywhere the eyes rest, from the sea to the mountains, breathtaking scenery unfolds: the deep blue sea, small islands, and fishing boats scattered like dots evoke the image of a painting.
Additionally, Sacheon Bay offers a close view of the famous Jukbangnyeom (traditional fish traps), and the beautiful cypress forest located mid-mountain on Gaksan is already renowned as the best healing spot.
Moreover, the native Korean dolphin, the 'Sanggwaengi' (finless porpoise), is frequently spotted swimming here. Since these dolphins are not commonly seen, they serve as a catalyst for emotional excitement.
Especially notable is the highest tower pillar at 74 meters, where the thrilling sensation is undeniable, and the scenery of the Changseon-Samcheonpo Bridge, selected as one of "Korea's 100 Beautiful Roads," evokes awe.
Meanwhile, Sacheon City recently reorganized its local tourist attractions from eight to nine scenic spots, designating the Sacheon Sea Cable Car along with Samcheonpo Bridge Park as the first scenic spot, raising expectations among local merchants for a "cable car special effect."
◆ Outstanding Safety
The greatest feature of the Sacheon Sea Cable Car is its safety.
It is equipped with a revolutionary marine rescue system featuring a special structure vehicle with a self-driving motor that can directly approach the cabin in the worst emergency to safely rescue passengers.
From the design stage, it underwent various wind tunnel tests and was designed to operate safely even in storm-level winds of 22 m/s. Additionally, wind direction and speed meters were installed on all towers to prepare for sudden weather changes.
The Sacheon Sea Cable Car also considers social minorities by securing space for wheelchairs and strollers.
Its high safety standards earned it the "2018 Korea Best New Product" grand prize, the "2019 Consumer-Trusted Good Brand" grand prize, the "11th Korea Top Brand Awards" safety brand grand prize, and the Ministry of Environment Award for environmental contribution at the 12th Happiness Plus Environmental Love event.
Furthermore, it was recognized as an "Excellent Disaster Reduction Company" by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and implemented an innovative safety management system certified by international standards, such as the "Occupational Safety and Health Management System (KOSHA-MS)," making it a tourism facility where customers can feel more secure and comfortable.
Creation of New Tourism Industry Centered on the Cable Car
Han Jaecheon, who was inaugurated as director on April 3, expressed a strong will in his inaugural speech to continuously create new tourism industries in cooperation with the city and private companies centered on the cable car for the development of Sacheon's marine tourism.
The cable car's nighttime operation, which began in September 2020, combined with colorful beautiful lighting, one of the nation's nine best sunsets "Sil An Sunset," and the "Sangcheon-Samcheonpo Bridge," selected as one of the top 100 night tourism spots, has written a new history of Sacheon's night sea travel.
Additionally, through business agreements with the South Coast Tourism Administrative Council (Sacheon, Namhae, Hadong, Tongyeong, Geoje, Goseong), "Sacheon Aramaru Aquarium," and "Ocean Vista Jeju-ro," it has contributed to the development of Sacheon tourism and the creation of new tourism industries centered on the cable car.
Going forward, the cable car is expected to stand tall as Korea's unique marine leisure tourism destination by linking five islands with a rainbow-colored ecological exploration trail, a resort-style hotel in Sil An, and this year's commercial bank's large Ferris wheel and carousel, creating new tourism industries.
◆ Customer Appreciation Events Prepared for the 5th Anniversary
To celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Sacheon Sea Cable Car's opening, various promotional events have been prepared.
From April 13 to 16, passengers born on April 13, the same day as the cable car's birthday, will receive free cable car rides and a 5,000 KRW discount for up to five accompanying guests each. Additionally, a special 2,000 KRW discount event will be held for other passengers.
Also, until April 16, sharing memories or photos related to the cable car on the corporation's SNS will enter participants into a draw where 50 winners will receive prizes worth 30,000 KRW each.
Director Han said, "We have devoted ourselves to fulfilling our responsibility for regional economic and marine tourism development by developing new tourism industries in response to changing times and environments. We ask for continued interest and promotion of the Sacheon Sea Cable Car."
