Jung Kyung-shim Tops with 240 Million Won in Confiscated Funds... Supporters Cheer

Limit of 3 million won... Excess amount to be transferred via account
Daughter Jomin to attend book concert with father

It was reported on the 11th that former Dongyang University professor Jeong Gyeong-shim, who is serving time on charges including admission fraud involving her children, has received more than 200 million won in prison deposits from supporters over the past two years.

According to data on the 'Top 10 inmates with the highest total prison deposit amounts at Seoul Detention Center' submitted by the Ministry of Justice to Yoo Sang-beom, a member of the People Power Party, from January 2021 to February this year, the inmate who received the largest amount of prison deposits at Seoul Detention Center was identified as A, who received a total of 241,307,027 won.

According to legal circles, A is reported to be former professor Jeong.

The amount of prison deposits received by A was twice that of the second-ranked inmate (108,037,600 won) and three times that of the third-ranked inmate (73,959,959 won).

It is known that supporters of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk sent prison deposits to former professor Jeong as a form of encouragement.

According to the Ministry of Justice's regulation, the 'Guidelines for Managing Prison Deposits,' the maximum amount of prison deposits an inmate can hold is 3 million won. Any amount exceeding this is transferred to a personal account opened in the name of former professor Jeong at the detention center's bank. Prison deposits not used until the end of the sentence are returned upon release.

Former professor Jeong recently applied for a suspension of sentence execution at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office due to deteriorating health. The prosecution initially planned to hold a suspension review committee on the 11th but reportedly postponed it to the 25th.

Former professor Jeong was released on October 4 last year after applying for suspension of sentence execution due to reasons including herniated disc, stenosis, and surgery for lower limb paralysis, and after one extension, she was re-incarcerated on December 4 last year.

Jeong, the spouse of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk, was sentenced to four years in prison by the Supreme Court last January for allegations related to her daughter Cho Min's false credentials and a private equity fund. She has served more than two-thirds of her sentence to date.

In February this year, Jeong was also sentenced to an additional one year in prison for forging an internship certificate in the name of her son, issued by Choi Kang-wook, a member of the Democratic Party and a lawyer, and she has appealed the sentence.

On the 10th, Cho posted a video on her Instagram from the book concert for her father, former Minister Cho, held on the 28th of last month at Gwangju Theater in Dong-gu, Gwangju.

The video showed Cho smiling brightly in front of the audience and engaging in a Q&A session. Cho wrote, "A clumsy opening and ending. See you tomorrow in Busan."
