On the afternoon of September 25, 2020, at Choi In Ah Bookstore in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, lawyer Kwon Kyung-ae (second from the left) is seen answering questions from the press during the press conference for "A Country Never Experienced Before."
Attorney Kwon Kyung-ae (58, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 33), who represented the bereaved family of a school violence victim and lost the case after failing to appear in court three times, denied rumors of her disappearance and stated that "there will be no cutting off contact with the bereaved family."
On the 7th, Attorney Kwon told multiple media outlets that she is maintaining contact with the mother of the deceased Park and her representative, and that she will not sever communication with the bereaved family in the future. She also expressed her intention to take responsibility for any consequences, including disciplinary action by the Korean Bar Association.
Attorney Kwon, who had written a memorandum promising to repay 90 million won over three years to Park’s family, was once reported to have not been attending her law firm and was unresponsive to contacts, which sparked rumors of her disappearance.
Meanwhile, after it became known that Park’s family not only lost the lawsuit due to Attorney Kwon but also had to bear the litigation costs, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education is considering waiving the claim for litigation costs against the plaintiff, Park’s family.
Additionally, the Korean Bar Association has decided to refer Attorney Kwon to an investigative committee by the president’s authority.
Park’s mother recently appointed Attorney Yang Seung-cheol as her representative, introduced by Attorney Park Jun-young, who is well-known for handling retrial cases.
