Election of Yeo's Floor Leader, Presidential Office: "Cooperation with Opposition... Party-Government Exchanges Will Strengthen"

Regarding the approval rating in the low 30% range, "We always accept public sentiment humbly."

The Presidential Office on the 7th expressed its position on the election of Representative Yoon Jae-ok as the new floor leader of the People Power Party, stating, "Given the situation where the ruling party is in the minority, we hope that the National Assembly will be well led through cooperation with the opposition party."


A Presidential Office official held a briefing at the Yongsan Presidential Office that afternoon and said, "With the election of the new floor leader, the ruling party leadership has been newly formed," adding, "As policy exchange and cooperation between the party and the government have recently been strengthened, the addition of the new floor leader is expected to further solidify this trend." He further explained, "Since the new leadership has been formed, we expect there will be more opportunities for consultations between the party and the government."

That morning, the People Power Party held a party meeting and elected Representative Yoon as the new floor leader. Yoon, the new floor leader, won the support of 65 out of 109 members, defeating Representative Kim Hak-yong, who received 44 votes.


Regarding the president's approval rating released that day, the Presidential Office said, "We always humbly accept public opinion," and "We also refer to the results of opinion polls." According to a survey conducted by Gallup Korea from the 4th to the 6th among 1,000 people nationwide aged 18 and older, President Yoon's positive job performance rating was 31%, while the negative rating was 61%. Compared to the previous survey (March 28-30), the positive rating rose by 1 percentage point from the lowest point recorded since last November (30%), and the negative rating also increased by 1 percentage point.


In particular, regarding the Grain Management Act on which President Yoon exercised his veto power, 60% responded that they support it "to stabilize rice prices and guarantee farmers' income," while 28% opposed it, citing "excessive rice supply and increased government financial burden." Twelve percent withheld their opinion. Regarding President Yoon's veto of the Grain Management Act, 48% responded that it was "not good," which was ahead of the 33% who said it was "good."


The margin of error for this survey is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. It was conducted via telephone interviews with 95% mobile and 5% landline calls, and the response rate was 9.1%.
