Gyeongnam Nonghyup and Changnyeong Livestock Cooperative Practice Carbon Neutrality through Odor-Prevention Forest Creation

Leading the Way in Implementing Eco-Friendly Livestock Farms

On the 7th, Gyeongnam Nonghyup, together with Changnyeong Livestock Nonghyup, held a windbreak forest creation event to practice carbon neutrality at a livestock farm located in Changnyeong-gun.

About 20 people attended the event, including representatives from the Gyeongnam Headquarters, Nonghyup Changnyeong County Branch, Changnyeong Livestock Nonghyup, and successor livestock farmers in Changnyeong. They worked hard to create a clean livestock environment by maintaining the farm environment and planting about 100 trees such as thuja.

The windbreak forest creation project for livestock farms is effective in improving the external landscape of barns, reducing livestock odors, and suppressing carbon and fine dust emissions. Gyeongnam Nonghyup conducts this project annually to realize eco-friendly livestock farms that coexist with neighbors.

Through local livestock cooperatives, Gyeongnam Nonghyup supplied about 2,100 trees to 35 farms this year as part of the windbreak forest creation project.

Separately, they supported about 1,000 seedlings for fence construction to 13 small-scale farms (raising 15 or fewer Korean cattle) in the province, supporting a total of about 3,100 trees to 48 farms this year alone, making efforts to practice carbon neutrality.

Kang Moon-kyu, Deputy Head of the Economic Division, said, “Gyeongnam Nonghyup is making various efforts to realize clean livestock farming that coexists with neighbors, not only through the windbreak forest creation project but also by painting murals on livestock farms and operating Livestock Environment Improvement Days. To achieve sustainable livestock farming, the Gyeongnam Headquarters and local livestock cooperatives plan to cooperate to help farms improve barn environments on their own.”
