Relaxation of Participation Regulations
Starting this year, players participating in the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) regular tour can compete in overseas tours such as those in the United States and Japan without any limit on the number of appearances.
The Korea Ladies Professional Golf Tour (KLPGT) announced on the 5th that it has abolished the regulation limiting participation in overseas tour events held concurrently with KPGT tour tournaments to three times or fewer, in order to strengthen the competitiveness of the tour.
However, if the overseas tour and a KLPGA major tournament are held during the same period, players must prioritize participation in the KLPGA major tournament. If the overseas tour is held domestically, separate official regulations must be followed.
Earlier, in February, KLPGT expanded benefits for winners and top players of the foreign-only tournament, the International Qualifying Tournament (IQT), to encourage the influx of foreign players into the domestic tour. In February last year, the organization fully opened the qualifying rounds for associate members and the Jump Tour to foreign players, lowering the barriers to entry into the domestic tour.
Kang Chun-ja, CEO of KLPGT, stated, "As the KLPGA Tour, which aims to be a global tour, grows not only in scale but also in competitiveness, it is expected that excellent overseas players will participate in the domestic tour. Through this, we anticipate taking another step closer to the globalization of the KLPGA Tour."
