Wolseong Unit 2 Backup Diesel Generator Automatic Start... Investigation Team Dispatched

Around 10:34 Automatic Activation
"Plan to Review Recurrence Prevention Measures"

The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission announced on the 5th that it received a report from Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power that one of the standby diesel generators at Wolsong Unit 2 in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk, automatically started. This is the second occurrence since the automatic start of the emergency diesel generator at Hanbit Unit 3 in January this year.

According to the NSSC, around 10:34 a.m. that day, one of the two standby diesel generators at Wolsong Unit 2 automatically started. Typically, standby diesel generators automatically start when the power supply to the nuclear power plant is temporarily interrupted.

An NSSC official stated, "It is understood that the power supply to one of the two power supply systems providing electricity to the nuclear power plant was momentarily interrupted." The NSSC is assessing the initial situation at the local office installed on site and has dispatched an investigation team composed of experts from the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety.
