HD Hyundai Construction Equipment Expands Solar Self-Generation in India and China... Accelerating 'RE100'

HD Hyundai Construction Equipment announced on the 5th that it is promoting the achievement of 'RE100 (100% renewable energy use)' by expanding solar power self-generation within its business sites.

HD Hyundai Construction Equipment's India branch recently signed a memorandum of understanding for joint development of a 2.5MW-class solar power project with Rabindra Energy, a solar power specialist company.

The two companies plan to build solar power facilities on a 40,000㎡ idle land area around the India branch by September this year and supply 4,700MWh of electricity annually to the India branch for the next 10 years. This amount corresponds to 70% of the annual electricity consumption used in the construction equipment production plant within the branch, and the period can be extended by mutual agreement.

The solar power facilities will also be equipped with an Energy Management System (EMS). This system automatically adjusts energy usage according to changing factors such as weather to maximize power generation efficiency.

The China branch is also expanding its solar power generation. Since November last year, HD Hyundai Construction Equipment's China branch has installed 4MW-class solar panels on the 77,000㎡ factory roof, self-supplying 3,800MWh of electricity annually, which accounts for half of its annual consumption. In particular, it is aiming for more efficient power usage through analysis of solar power generation and electricity consumption patterns.

Through solar power generation in the China region, HD Hyundai Construction Equipment expects to reduce exhaust gas emissions (such as sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide) by approximately 3,700 tons and dust emissions by about 1,300 tons annually, as well as save around 1,400 tons of coal usage per year.

An official from HD Hyundai Construction Equipment stated, "Once a renewable energy production system is established at the Ulsan campus in 2024, we plan to accelerate the achievement of RE100 by leveraging our overseas experience in operating solar power facilities."
