Stakeholder and Expert Opinion Collection, Surveys, Big Data Analysis, etc.
Yongsan-gu is promoting a project to establish a five-year plan for revitalizing the tourism special zone.
On the 29th of last month, the district held a kickoff briefing at the 5th-floor meeting room of the district office with district officials and the project execution company in attendance.
This project analyzes the current status and growth potential of tourism throughout Yongsan-gu, centered on the Itaewon Tourism Special Zone, and presents visions, strategies, and step-by-step execution plans for tourism revitalization in Yongsan-gu from this year through 2027.
The main tasks include ▲measures to enhance Yongsan-gu’s image ▲analysis of the region and tourism special zone status ▲analysis of policies and legal systems related to the tourism special zone ▲discovery of specialized and differentiated tourism courses ▲establishment of the Itaewon Tourism Special Zone promotion plan ▲and formulation of execution plans for each project.
During the project, the district will seek directions for tourism revitalization, project promotion strategies, and key tasks through ▲stakeholder and expert opinion collection ▲online surveys targeting Seoul citizens ▲and social big data analysis.
The project is scheduled to be completed in September after a mid-term report meeting in June and a final report meeting in August.
Yongsan-gu serves as a gateway connecting downtown Seoul and a transportation hub, covering about 3.61% (21.89㎢) of Seoul’s total area. The local living zones are divided into four sectors centered on Yongsan Park: Cheongpa-Wonhyo to the west, Hannam to the east, Ichon-Hangang to the south, and Huam-Yongsan to the north.
Major tourism resources in the area include ▲cultural and artistic facilities: National Museum of Korea, Yongsan History Museum, War Memorial of Korea, Leeum Museum of Art ▲representative local festivals: Itaewon Global Village Festival, Yonggeummak Festival, Book Festival, Youth Festival ▲walking travel courses ▲natural resources: Namsan, Han River, Hyochang, and Yongsan Park.
Kim Seonsu, Acting Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “Through this research project, we will do our best to prepare practical measures that can help Yongsan grow into the number one global tourism destination.”
