Ulleung-gun, Gyeongbuk, has been conducting the 2023 Dokdo Academy education program since March 29.
After resuming the Dokdo Academy for the first time in three years in the second half of last year following COVID-19, this year it started earlier than usual in March, quickly opening the post-COVID era.
Also, for the first time in 16 years, the program has been extended from a 2-night, 3-day course to a 3-night, 4-day course.
The additional day includes climbing Seonginbong, one of Korea's 100 famous mountains, and walking Haedam-gil, a restored old path once used by the pioneering settlers of Ulleungdo.
By adding natural ecology learning to the existing history and cultural education, the program is expected to offer education that allows participants to feel closer to the mysterious and beautiful nature along with the history of our Ulleungdo and Dokdo.
On the 27th, the application day for the academy education, the 3-night, 4-day course was fully booked within 20 minutes of the application opening.
Within less than two hours of the application opening on the Dokdo Museum website, all courses for the first half of the year were fully booked, leading to a flood of inquiries and demands from many prospective participants who could not apply in time.
Despite the capacity of about 130 people per course, the Dokdo Academy team plans to increase some courses to accommodate up to 200 participants with the help of the operating company and related organizations.
