"No More Sudden Braking"... Patrol Cars Catching Speeders Expanded Nationwide

Police: "Many Cases of Speeding Again... Urging Safe Driving"

Starting this month, if a driver slows down only in front of speed enforcement cameras on the highway and then speeds again, they will be caught by police patrol vehicles.

"No More Sudden Braking"... Patrol Cars Catching Speeders Expanded Nationwide Provided by the National Police Agency

The National Police Agency announced on the 2nd that from the 3rd, 'patrol cars equipped with traffic enforcement devices' that monitor speeding vehicles while driving on roads will be expanded to all highways nationwide.

The police decided to implement this measure following concerns that drivers often slow down only in front of fixed enforcement devices and then speed up again.

After a pilot operation of patrol cars equipped with these devices, the police found the speeding enforcement to be highly effective and decided to deploy them across all highways nationwide. The police began pilot operations of patrol cars equipped with mounted traffic enforcement devices in November 2021.

The mounted traffic enforcement device automatically measures the speed of the vehicle ahead to determine speeding, and it automatically records and transmits enforcement information by tracking real-time location. Last year, a total of 148,028 cases were recorded by the mounted enforcement devices.

According to the police, the number of highway speeding traffic accident fatalities decreased from 18 in 2021 to 6 last year.

A National Police Agency official urged safe driving, stating, "Speeding and reckless driving on highways can be monitored at any time through mounted enforcement devices."
