Designation of a Dedicated Team of 587 Members
The National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters announced that it will intensively crack down on traffic accident insurance fraud crimes for seven months from the 3rd of this month until the end of October.
The police regard traffic accident insurance fraud as a crime that causes insurance premium surcharges and threatens public safety. Since 2021, they have conducted intensive crackdowns annually, detecting over 3,900 cases in two years, arresting 4,130 individuals, and detaining 132 suspects.
The police will designate a dedicated team consisting of 587 personnel across 157 teams nationwide to carry out the crackdown.
Additionally, the police stated that they will promptly freeze the bank accounts used by fraudsters to receive insurance payments and will strive to confiscate and recover criminal proceeds.
In consultation with local governments and the Korea Road Traffic Authority, additional CCTV cameras will be installed in locations where insurance fraud frequently occurs.
