The Gyeonggi-do Skills Competition will open on the 3rd.
Gyeonggi-do announced on the 2nd that it will hold the "2023 Gyeonggi-do Skills Competition" at the Suwon Convention Center on the 3rd to foster and discover skilled technical personnel who will lead the innovation and development of Gyeonggi-do's future industries.
Hosted by Gyeonggi-do and organized by the Gyeonggi-do Skills Competition Committee, this event will be held over five days until the 7th across seven regions in the province, including Suwon, Seongnam, and Bucheon.
The competition includes a total of 51 categories: 48 official job categories such as Polymechanics, Mechanical Design, and Hair Design, and 3 specialized categories including 3D Printing, Intelligent Robots, and Video Content Production.
A total of 533 skilled technicians will participate, competing for approximately 150 medals to showcase the skills they have honed. Winners will receive certificates, medals, and prize money up to 1.3 million KRW. Benefits such as exemption from the practical exam for the relevant job’s technician license are also provided.
About 150 gold, silver, bronze, and excellence award winners will represent Gyeonggi-do at the 58th National Skills Competition held in Chungcheongnam-do this October. This year, the province is especially conducting the competition as a participatory festival with residents.
Accordingly, at the Suwon Convention Center, the competition venue, a job fair and skilled technology experience center will be operated, allowing visitors to experience 4th Industrial Revolution skills such as making drone helicopters and 3D printing.
There will also be time allocated for career counseling for middle and high school students to explore further education and career paths.
Yeom Tae-young, Deputy Governor for Economy of Gyeonggi-do, emphasized, "This is a time when vocational training is absolutely necessary for high-skilled workforce development required for digital transformation and for industries with relatively insufficient response capabilities. Gyeonggi-do will provide opportunities for skilled technicians to grow and actively support them."
Meanwhile, the "Skills Competition," the festival of Korea’s top skilled technicians, is held simultaneously in 17 cities and provinces nationwide, including Gyeonggi-do.
