"Mayor, you hit the jackpot~~"
Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is gaining attention with a subscription event video produced to promote the district office’s YouTube channel, Mihongssi.
The district has been holding a YouTube subscription event from the 27th of last month until the 9th. To support this, they created a 38-second subscription event video that has received positive responses from citizens. This post, parodying a Samsung Securities commercial, attracts attention with visuals and dance that surpass the original advertisement. At the end of the video, Mayor Oh Seung-rok appears and shouts, "Subscribe and like Nowon-gu Mihongssi," which has been said to build trust among subscribers. Especially, the rewritten lyrics of the advertisement have become very popular.
"Search Mihongssi, don’t be upset if you’re not subscribed, start subscribing Nowon-gu Office
Shinsegae gift certificates, Domino’s Pizza, BBQ Chicken, and even iced Americano
The method is simple, subscribe to Mihongssi, plenty of prizes Nowon-gu Office"
Thanks to the lively music and dance combined in the video, within just one week of the event’s start, the video views exceeded 20,000, comments reached 1,200, and subscribers increased by 1,100.
In particular, the comments contain the genuine feelings of Nowon-gu residents who love their district, so on the 31st, the district office operated a comment reading segment with Mayor Oh Seung-rok and uploaded it on YouTube. (Photo)
Mayor Oh Seung-rok of Nowon-gu said, “This is the first time I’ve seen a video or post with so many comments,” adding, “Although people commented because of the event, I was touched to feel the sincere love residents have for the district office among them. The district office and public officials usually receive more criticism than praise, so receiving over 1,000 compliments and encouragements is comforting and empowering.”
Kim Jeong-jae, the team leader who promoted the subscription event, said, “At first, we planned to prepare many prizes and make a simple event video like other local governments. But the PD and staff wanted to try parodying an advertisement and collaborating with a dance team, so I trusted the employees and let them try it, which seems to be the secret to the good response.”
The district also produced a wildfire prevention dance challenge video using the participating dance team, which received a good response.
The Nowon-gu Office YouTube subscription event runs until the 9th, with prizes including department store gift certificates, pizza, chicken, and coffee coupons. To participate, subscribe and leave a comment on the event video.
‘Mihong’ is an abbreviation of Media Public Relations Officer and carries the meaning of a graceful PR person.
