Gwangju Police Agency Operates 'Voluntary Reporting Period for Illegal Weapons'

Gwangju Police Agency announced on the 31st that from the 3rd of next month, they will operate the first voluntary illegal weapons reporting period for one month in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Ministry of National Defense.


Unauthorized firearms and blades, explosives (gunpowder, dynamite, live ammunition, etc.), spray devices, electronic shockers, crossbows, and other illegal weapons will be accepted for voluntary reporting at police stations or military units.


Those who report voluntarily will, in principle, be exempt from criminal and administrative liability.


If one wishes to possess a weapon, a decision on approval will be made after a verification process including disqualification checks.

A Gwangju Police Agency official stated, “After the voluntary reporting period ends, illegal weapon possession will be intensively cracked down on during the month of May.”
