Hyundai Motor Group has released a teaser video showcasing the development process of the high-performance electric sports utility vehicle (SUV), Ioniq 5 N.
The video, released on the 31st, features the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N alongside the i20 N WRC rally car. This demonstrates that Hyundai Motor Group’s high-performance N brand will apply the experience and technology gained from winning the World Rally Championship (WRC) twice in eight years directly to the Ioniq 5 N.
In the video, the Ioniq 5 N is covered with a dedicated camouflage wrap. Hyundai officials explained that the design, inspired by pixel graphics and checkered flags, symbolizes the N brand’s direction to continue the joy of driving even in the electrification era.

In the video, the Ioniq 5 N and the i20 N WRC rally car traverse a snowy landscape. This location is Hyundai Motor Group’s Proving Ground on the frozen lake in Arjeplog, Sweden. It is an extremely cold region where winter temperatures can drop as low as -30°C. The test site features extreme low-temperature and low-friction road conditions. Hyundai tests the chassis balance, acceleration response, and handling performance of its high-performance electric vehicles here.
Hyundai Motor Group has incorporated the know-how accumulated from various motorsports directly into the electrification technology of the Ioniq 5 N. A representative example is the 'permanent all-wheel-drive system' realized through the optimization of a dual motor architecture. This system allows the driver to adjust the torque distribution between the front and rear wheels. This enables stable grip driving as well as drift driving by sliding the rear wheels.

The electrification technology equipped in the Ioniq 5 N was previously revealed through the high-performance electric concept car RN22e. The all-wheel-drive system, with drive motors placed at the front and rear, and the technology to quickly switch between all-wheel and rear-wheel drive depending on driving conditions, both started with the RN22e.
A Hyundai Motor Group official said, "We are striving to create a high-performance electric vehicle that offers the joy of driving, not just focusing on eco-friendliness and high output," adding, "Detailed information about the Ioniq 5 N will be available at the global unveiling in July this year."
