Changwon Special City, "Greening Changwon... Tree Planting Event Held" Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, held a tree planting event in celebration of the 78th Arbor Day at Sahwa Park in Dogye-dong, Uichang-gu.

This year’s tree planting event involved planting about 120 Cheongdanpung (Korean maple) trees along the walking paths of Sahwa Park, a popular spot for many citizens. This is expected to provide visual enjoyment for visitors as well as indirect and public benefits such as mitigating urban heat islands and reducing carbon emissions.

In addition to this event, the city is responding to the increasing public demand for forest creation in urban and suburban living areas by planting 128,610 trees of five species, including cypress, over 51 hectares as part of the 2023 afforestation project.

Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, stated, “In a situation where many forests across the country are turning to ashes due to recent wildfires, planting a single tree is an important act to expand carbon sinks and respond to climate change.”
