Damyang Cultural Center, Grand Reopening Ceremony with Over 300 Attendees 'Successful'

After 1 Year and 5 Months of Renovation, Transformed into a Center for Culture and Arts

On the 29th, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 30th that it had completed the renovation of the Damyang Cultural Center, which took one year and five months, and held an opening ceremony with about 300 residents on the same day.

The Damyang Cultural Center originally opened as a gymnasium in May 1991 and has been used as a cultural center since April 2002. In 2020, it was selected as a Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport urban regeneration project, completing the construction of a cultural complex space before reopening.

The reopening ceremony, held to introduce the newly renovated cultural center to the residents, was attended by about 100 members from eight organizations, featuring performances by local cultural and artistic groups, congratulatory performances, and promotion of cultural city projects.

Inside the cultural center, various side events were organized, including an exhibition of art pieces owned by Damyang-gun and free screenings at the Dambit Cinema.

The cultural center, reborn as a complex cultural space, is equipped with various facilities such as ▲a performing arts creation space ▲a resident participation cultural creation space ▲an exhibition space ▲a cultural plaza ▲a large performance hall.

Going forward, plans include recruiting members for local cultural clubs, supporting various events, and exploring efficient ways to utilize the space for presentations and other activities.

County Governor Lee Byeong-no said, “We will do our best to activate the newly opened Damyang Cultural Center as a high-quality cultural and artistic space that satisfies the diverse cultural needs of the residents.”
