Dongdaemun-gu, Major Renovation of Baebongsan Neighborhood Park

Renovation of Aging Restrooms, Badminton Court, and Mineral Spring in the Park... Aiming to Complete Construction in the First Half of the Year

Full Effort to Improve Park Scenery Suitable for Dongdaemun-gu, the City of Flowers, Including Planting Lycoris Radiata

Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) is undertaking a major renovation of Baebongsan Neighborhood Park, which has been designated as a ‘Seoul-style Healing Forest Trail’ and is loved by residents.

The district plans to renovate the aging facilities in Baebongsan Neighborhood Park and plant Lycoris radiata and other flowers to enhance the park scenery befitting Dongdaemun-gu, the city of flowers, by the first half of this year.

The facilities within Baebongsan Neighborhood Park, such as the fermentation-type restrooms, badminton court, and mineral spring, have become outdated, posing a high risk of safety accidents and causing inconvenience to residents, leading to numerous complaints requesting renovations.

Accordingly, the district secured a project budget of approximately 900 million KRW for Baebongsan renovation and is promoting a large-scale repair and maintenance project for the aging facilities, aiming to complete the construction within the first half of this year.

The aging fermentation-type restrooms will be replaced with eco-friendly, non-discharge circulating water flush restrooms that continuously recycle flushing water without releasing it.

The worn-out line belts of the badminton court, which have been the subject of continuous complaints, will be replaced with new ones, and additional convenience facilities such as benches and exercise equipment will be installed.

Furthermore, the old pergola around the frequently used mineral spring will be renovated, and natural stones will be stacked to refurbish the spring area. In places with a high risk of forest disasters such as soil erosion, wooden log barriers and flow velocity reduction structures will be installed to ensure that disaster prevention facilities maintain their full functionality.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “Through this renovation project, we hope Baebongsan Neighborhood Park will become a safer and more pleasant healing space for residents,” and added, “We will continue to gradually renovate aging parks in the area to create high-quality parks that satisfy residents.”
