Kakao's artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot ‘Dadaum (ddmm)’ is set to relaunch its service as early as next month after undergoing reorganization.
Dadaum is a service that combines Kakao Brain’s ultra-large language AI ‘KoGPT’ and the image generation model ‘Kallo’. It enables ▲text-to-image conversion ▲recommendations (restaurants, shopping information, content, travel destinations, etc.) ▲complex information searches ▲language learning ▲translation, and more.
On the 19th, Kakao Brain introduced Dadaum, a Korean-style ChatGPT, on KakaoTalk. A beta service was conducted for a small group of users, but the number of users exceeded 12,000 within a day. However, due to demand exceeding expectations, the service did not operate normally. Ultimately, on the 20th at 4 p.m., the project was declared reorganized and the service was temporarily suspended.
Kakao Brain aims to reintroduce Dadaum in April. However, based on previous experience, Kakao Brain determined that a beta service for small-scale user testing is not feasible and plans to focus on improving the service’s completeness.
Recently, several companies have launched services similar to Dadaum, intensifying competition in AI chatbots, but it is reported that Kakao is prioritizing service completeness over speed. For example, AI startup Upstage, like Dadaum, has launched the AI chatbot service ‘AskUP’ on KakaoTalk, surpassing 460,000 users. Searching ‘ChatGPT’ on KakaoTalk channels yields about 20 channels.
There is also a certain level of confidence within Kakao. Although Dadaum entered reorganization just one day after its beta service launch, several differentiating factors stood out. First, the application of KoGPT is a key feature. Being specialized in Korean, it has a high understanding of Korean language context.
The application of AI artist Kallo also attracted attention during the beta service. It is a service that understands sentences and draws corresponding images, receiving positive responses from beta users. Since Dadaum is used on KakaoTalk, it is expected to be utilized for users’ profile pictures, backgrounds, and more.
Kakao Brain recently added an AI profile service to ‘Be Discover,’ a Kallo-based image generation and sharing platform. This service creates various profile images using AI based on images designated by users. In the first half of the year, an ‘AI motion service’ will be introduced that generates videos by adding users’ voices and movements to the created AI profile images. It is highly likely that such features will be included in Dadaum in the future.
