They also collectively read an oath pledging to act as honorable youth 5·18 publicity group ‘Pureunsae’ members who practice the spirit of democracy, human rights, peace, sharing, and community, reaffirming their commitment.

In Part 2, there was a session to share the direction and schedule of activities. The plan is to conduct overall activities including participation in the Sewol Ferry Disaster 9th Anniversary Memorial Cultural Festival and the 5·18 Youth Cultural Festival, as well as subgroup activities by division.

In particular, over eight months from April to December, the publicity group will engage in activities such as ▲learning about the May 18 Democratic Movement (history, significance, etc.) ▲creating recorded content such as writing, photography, and videos ▲producing design content such as webtoons, posters, card news, and goods ▲creating performing arts content such as dance and singing ▲promoting the May 18 Democratic Movement worldwide in English and other foreign languages ▲conducting online and offline publicity activities and managing 5·18 Democratic Movement promotional events ▲correcting fake news and historical distortions related to the 5·18 Democratic Movement.

Meanwhile, on the day of the launch ceremony, publicity group members were provided with activity bags, publicity group badges, specially made activity notebooks, pens, post-its, and handkerchiefs to assist their activities.

Additionally, members will receive ▲certificates of activity and volunteer service certificates based on their participation ▲opportunities for field trips to democratic sites in other regions ▲priority benefits for participation in overseas exploration programs for the globalization of 5·18. Outstanding publicity group members may also receive commendations in the name of the Gwangju Superintendent of Education.

Choi Hanna, a student from Chodae Girls’ High School who participated in the launch ceremony, said, “I applied to ‘Pureunsae’ because I want to widely share with students, Gwangju citizens, and not only Korea but the world that the May 18 Democratic Movement is an important and proud history of our Gwangju toward democratization.”

Superintendent of Education Lee Jeong-seon said, “I hope that the publicity group ‘Pureunsae,’ inheriting and practicing the spirit of the May 18 Democratic Movement, will make vigorous wing flaps like its name and help establish the spirit of the May 18 Democratic Movement as a universal value worldwide,” adding, “I hope you become a proud 5·18 publicity group of the Republic of Korea by utilizing your diverse talents not only in our country but all around the world.”
