The Yeongam Branch of the Korea Rural Community Corporation (Branch Manager Lim Moon-hee) announced on the 29th that two new districts (Dokcheon, Geumgang Taebaek) for project commencement and one district (Bangchuk) for basic investigation have been finally selected for the 2023 Drainage Improvement Project promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
Until now, National Assembly member Seo Sam-seok, Yeongam County (County Governor Woo Seung-hee), and Yeongam County Council (Chairman Kang Chan-won), together with Jeollanam-do Province, have continuously requested the central government for the necessity of the drainage improvement project to resolve habitual flood-prone areas. As a result, two new commencement districts and one basic investigation district were selected as project target districts for 2023.
The drainage improvement project is conducted to secure the stability of farming by increasing drainage capacity through the construction and reorganization of disaster prevention facilities in habitual flood-prone areas. This project is 100% funded by the national treasury.
The project costs for the newly selected commencement districts, Dokcheon District (Seochang-ri, Samho-eup and Dokcheon-ri, Haksan-myeon) and Geumgang Taebaek District (Geumgang-ri, Seoho-myeon), are 15.9 billion KRW and 7.4 billion KRW respectively. Detailed designs will be completed by this year, and the project is planned to be completed by 2026.
Additionally, the Bangchuk District (Shinyeon-ri area, Sijong-myeon), selected as a basic investigation district, will complete the basic investigation by this year and aims to be selected as a new commencement district next year.
This will provide stable farming conditions to farmers in the affected areas who have suffered flood damage, and is expected to improve farm productivity and increase agricultural income.
Branch Manager Lim Moon-hee said, “I am pleased that this project, fully funded by the national government, has been selected, allowing us to contribute to the development of local agriculture and the increase of farmers’ income. We will do our best to successfully promote the project and discover new projects.”
