Delivered congratulatory speech at ESG session
Choi Tae-won, chairman of SK Group, who attended the Boao Forum held in Hainan Province, China, said he would closely observe the changes in China. Chairman Choi is expected to meet with high-ranking Chinese officials to discuss semiconductor issues.
On the 29th, at a meeting with Korean correspondents at the Boao Forum held in Hainan Province, China, Choi responded to the question, "Are you scheduled to meet with high-ranking Chinese officials regarding semiconductor issues?" by saying, "I will try to do so if possible." He explained, "I have not been able to come even once in over three years," adding, "I will better observe how China has changed and share my impressions later."
There is also interest in whether a meeting with Premier Li Qiang, who is scheduled to deliver the keynote speech at the official opening ceremony on the 30th, will be arranged. In a congratulatory speech at the morning session on "Measuring Corporate ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Performance," Chairman Choi said, "COVID-19 has left an indelible mark on the world and emphasized the need to address climate change and achieve sustainable development," adding, "In the post-COVID era, companies with outstanding ESG performance and contributions to social value will be the winners." He also announced a proposal to conduct research on building a voluntary carbon market specializing in China, related to SK Group's initiative, the 'Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) Asia Partnership.'
He further stated, "World Expos will be an ideal platform to translate expertise and experience into concrete actions," and said, "Korea is ready to lead these efforts and requests your support for hosting the World Expo 2030." Additionally, he referenced the proverb 'Inshimje Taesani (人心齊 泰山移),' meaning 'When people unite, they can move Mount Tai,' and added, "Let us continue to work together to find solutions for a better future."
