An on-duty police officer who was driving under the influence was caught by police officers dispatched following a citizen's report.
On the 29th, the Gwangju Nambu Police Station announced that they are investigating Lieutenant A, affiliated with the Gwangsan Police Station in Gwangju, on charges including drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act.
Lieutenant A is accused of driving under the influence around 10 p.m. the previous night, which was his day off, and causing an accident by hitting the curb on a road in Jinwol-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju.
At that time, his blood alcohol concentration was found to be at a level warranting license cancellation.
A citizen reported a suspicious vehicle suspected of drunk driving, swerving across lanes, which led to his capture.
Lieutenant A admitted to drinking but refused to acknowledge the blood alcohol concentration and reportedly requested a blood test.
The police have suspended Lieutenant A from his position and plan to continue the investigation once the blood test results are available.
