Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency to Conduct Non-Detention Investigation on 'Drug Charges'
The police released Jeon Woo-won, the grandson of former President Jeon Du-hwan, who was arrested on drug charges, on the 29th and decided to continue the investigation without detention.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Narcotics Crime Investigation Unit announced that they plan to release Jeon, who was arrested on suspicion of violating the Narcotics Control Act and is currently under investigation, in the afternoon of the same day after his arrival the previous day.

Under the current Criminal Procedure Act, investigative agencies must either request an arrest warrant or release a suspect within 48 hours of arrest. The police executed the arrest warrant as soon as Jeon arrived at Incheon International Airport the previous morning, but considering that he admitted to the charges and voluntarily returned to the country, it is known that they decided to proceed with the investigation without detention.
Earlier, starting from the 13th of this month while staying in New York, Jeon exposed suspicions of slush funds related to his family through social networking services (SNS), YouTube, and media interviews, and revealed that he and his acquaintances were drug offenders. On the morning of the 17th, during a YouTube live broadcast, he appeared to use drugs and was subsequently taken to a hospital.
If Jeon is released in the afternoon, he is likely to immediately move to Gwangju to meet with the May 18 Democratic Movement organizations and bereaved families. After arriving at the airport the previous day, Jeon told reporters, "I will apologize to the May 18 organizations, bereaved families, and victims after being investigated."
Lee Ki-bong, Secretary General of the May 18 Memorial Foundation, also expressed a welcoming stance, saying, "If Jeon comes to Gwangju, we will arrange a place for him to apologize to the bereaved families and victims and promote a visit to the May 18 Democratic Cemetery."
