Jeju 4·3, Political Sensitivity Needed for Healing

"Read 'I Do Not Say Goodbye' Ahead of April 3"
"Wishing for the Complete Healing and Peace of April 3"

Former President Moon Jae-in stated on the 28th in a post on social networking service (SNS), "Before Jeju 4·3, I read the novel by Han Kang. Listening to a story that seems to be buried deep in the heart and passed from heart to heart, I can deeply empathize with the loss and pain of 4·3."

Former President Moon said, "Han Kang's unique dreamy, metaphorical, and delicate descriptions give even greater emotion. In the 'Author's Note,' she wrote, 'I hope this is a novel about profound love.' The love of a family enduring unjust death and a life of loss is so painful and earnest."

In particular, former President Moon emphasized, "That profound love is precisely the hope that will finally uncover the buried truth," adding, "If revealing that pain is literary sensitivity, then political sensitivity for healing must be added on top of it."

Former President Moon urged, "I hope ideology no longer stirs up wounds. I wish for the complete healing and peace of 4·3."

Meanwhile, former President Moon is considering visiting Jeju on the day of the 75th anniversary 4·3 memorial ceremony to pay respects at the 4·3 Peace Park. It is reported that he will pay respects after the government event has taken place.
