Operating a total of 71 parking spaces including 56 hourly parking spaces and 15 resident-priority parking spaces to provide convenience for residents and tourists
Cheongwadae Chunghumun Parking Lot and Palpandong Parking Lot to open in May
Since the opening of Cheongwadae last May, the Cheongunhyoja-dong area, which has experienced severe parking difficulties due to the influx of numerous domestic and international tourists and vehicles, is expected to breathe new life.
Jongno-gu (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) will operate a parking lot with a total of 71 spaces, including 56 hourly parking spaces and 15 resident-priority parking spaces within Cheongwadae Sarangchae, starting April 1.
The district planned the Cheongwadae Sarangchae parking lot to resolve the chronic parking shortage in the area and enhance convenience for residents and tourists. The renovation of outdated facilities began in November 2022 and was completed this month. The Presidential Security Service and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also shared the intention to solve the parking shortage issue and cooperated.
In addition, Jongno-gu has signed an agreement with the Presidential Security Service regarding the opening of ▲Cheongwadae Chunghumun Parking Lot (39 spaces) and ▲Palpandong Parking Lot (19 spaces), and is currently carrying out facility improvement work, with additional openings planned for May.
Furthermore, the district is promoting the construction of a public parking lot with 178 spaces underground at the Armed Forces Seoul District Hospital (located in Samcheong-dong) and an 85-space parking lot in Ogin-dong. It plans to continuously secure public parking lots to solve illegal parking problems and provide convenience to local residents and visitors.
Applications for resident-priority parking at Cheongwadae Sarangchae parking lot can be submitted on the Jongno-gu Facilities Management Corporation website from April 3 to April 5 for three days.
District Mayor Jeong Munheon stated, “In addition to creating parking lots, we are steadily implementing the ‘Fence Removal Project’ and ‘Resident-Priority Parking Sharing Project,’ which can resolve related complaints with relatively low cost and time.” He added, “We deeply appreciate the residents who actively cooperated despite the various inconveniences such as dust and noise caused by the Sarangchae parking lot construction.”
