Establishing a Foundation for Local Culture and Arts Education
The Sacheon Cultural Foundation in Gyeongnam has been selected for the national government-funded project, "Dream Dance Team Operation Project," promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service.
Through this national government-funded project selection, the foundation expects not only to establish a foundation for cultural arts education in the underdeveloped local dance genre but also to attempt new arts education using "dance" as a medium.
The "Dream Dance Team Operation Project" is a national government-funded project supported for five consecutive years, providing 100 million KRW annually for the first three years and 50 million KRW annually from the fourth to the fifth year to support dance education for children and youth (ages 8 to 19) in the Sacheon area. The educational genres are based on Korean dance, modern dance, ballet, and practical dance (street, K-pop).
Starting in May, the project plans to recruit elementary, middle, and high school students, including those from vulnerable groups, and must select at least 50% from socially and culturally vulnerable groups.
This project is designed to promote the holistic growth of children and youth by creating dances that contain their own stories (worlds), aiming to realize identity and spread values such as discovering values, identity, and future competencies.
CEO Kim Byung-tae said, "Arts education is about cultivating the ability and creativity to enjoy culture and arts," adding, "We will devote all efforts to the national government-funded project to develop the underdeveloped local cultural arts capabilities and to bring out the creativity and potential of Sacheon area youth in the future."
As a base institution, the foundation plans to cooperate with Sacheon City, Jinju National University of Education, and Changwon National University’s Department of Dance for smooth project execution, including supplementing project plans, consultations, and orientation for selected institutions.
