Gangnam-gu (Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) and Budapest District 5 of Hungary, celebrating their friendship alliance, donated Techball equipment and related supplies to the Jungdae High School soccer team on the 28th.

This Techball equipment donation was made as part of cultural exchange between the two countries after the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Hungarian National Techball Association expressed their intention to donate the equipment.

The donation ceremony was attended by Serderhei Istvan, Hungarian Ambassador to Korea; Medvezy Istvan, Director of the Liszt Hungarian Cultural Center in Korea; Yoo Song-geun, President of the Korea Techball Association; Jung Moon-seok, Principal of Jungdae High School; and officials from Gangnam-gu.

Invented in Hungary in 2012, Techball is a ball sport combining elements of soccer and table tennis, played on a curved table. Although relatively unfamiliar in Korea, it is known that soccer stars such as Ronaldinho and Neymar enjoy using Techball during training. As a sport approved by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), the Techball World Championship, held annually since 2017, attracts participants from over 50 countries each year.

Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, “We hope to continue promoting the development of both cities through mutual understanding and cooperation and to maintain active exchanges.”
