The Saemangeum Development Authority announced on the 28th that it discussed cooperation plans with Jeollabuk-do Province, Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), and others to supply electricity promptly to companies located in the Saemangeum area.
At the power supply working-level meeting held that day, the Saemangeum Authority provided power demand data to KEPCO, and KEPCO agreed to establish a power supply plan within the Saemangeum area and to construct necessary transmission lines and substations. Jeollabuk-do Province will provide administrative support for the construction of power facilities.
The Saemangeum Authority and KEPCO also decided to expand transformers at the currently operating substations. In the long term, additional substations will be installed. Furthermore, power supply plans will be prepared for the smart waterfront city currently under reclamation, as well as for Saemangeum New Port and the new airport.
Kim Kyuhyun, head of the Saemangeum Authority, said, "Power supply facilities are operated with sufficient capacity based on predicted power demand, but last year there was an incident where the explosive increase in the number of companies in Saemangeum caused concerns about power supply shortages. Moving forward, we will proactively construct the necessary power facilities in the Saemangeum area to ensure there are no disruptions in power supply."
Meanwhile, following the successful attraction of investments worth 1.1852 trillion KRW from 21 companies last year, the Saemangeum Authority has secured an additional 1.21 trillion KRW in investments this month.
