A Seongbuk-gu official stated, "This Arbor Day tree planting event is part of the ongoing efforts to create 'a city of forests and gardens, green Seongbuk,' which has been carried out through the 7th and now the 8th term of the local government." The district actively purchases private lands in areas like Gaewoonsan and Cheonjangsan and transforms neglected spaces into parks, providing citizens with pleasant resting places.

Additionally, efforts are underway to transform ecological spaces by planting various seasonal flowers, shrubs, and flowering trees along Seongbukcheon and Jeongneungcheon streams.

Samcheonggak, where the Arbor Day tree planting event takes place, was reborn in June 2022 as Seoul's representative traditional culture and arts complex. The name 'Samcheonggak' means that the mountains, water, and people's hearts are so pure and beautiful.

For this event, the nearby vacant land will be utilized by leveling the ground to prevent soil erosion, and trees such as Cornelian cherry, which blooms yellow cotton candy-like flowers, and Cornus, which produces white flowers resembling clouds in the sky, will be planted to create a spectacular view for domestic and international visitors to Seongbuk-dong in spring and summer.

Mayor Lee Seung-ro of Seongbuk-gu said, "Many people found comfort and healing in urban plants, forests, and streams during COVID-19," adding, "Through the tree planting event resuming after four years, I felt the urgent need to think about environmental protection and the future and to make Seongbuk-gu a more beautiful and healthy city." He expressed deep gratitude to all participants.
