The Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Foundation announced on the 27th that it will recruit 110 scholarship students in 2023.
Applications for the future industry and social integration fields will be accepted from today until the 20th of next month, and for the culture and arts field from today until the 14th of next month.
The foundation has been operating the scholarship program since 2011. It has supported about 900 middle and high school students, university students, and master's and doctoral scholarship recipients with 50 billion KRW. In 2021, reflecting the talent development philosophy of Chung Mong-Koo, Honorary Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, who believes in "investing in future talents who solve social problems," the scholarship program was completely reorganized as the "Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Scholarship."
Selected Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Scholarship recipients receive full tuition and study support funds (1.8 million to 3.6 million KRW per semester), as well as scholarships for participating in international competitions and overseas advancement, and a fellowship program for scholars, providing the highest level of scholarship benefits in Korea.
The fields for recruiting Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Scholarship students this year are ▲Future Industry ▲Culture and Arts ▲Social Integration. The Future Industry field targets undergraduate and graduate students. Applicants majoring in climate technology and energy, intelligent information technology, and bio-health can apply. This year, the "climate technology" field has been added to select future talents responding to carbon neutrality and green growth.
Additionally, to respond to rapidly changing technologies such as artificial intelligence and digital health, talents in the fields of intelligent information technology and bio-health will continue to be selected.
The Culture and Arts field targets middle and high school students, homeschooling students, and undergraduates majoring in classical music, Korean traditional music (gugak), and dance. Applicants will be selected through auditions. Selected scholarship students will be supported in their growth with scholarships for participating in international competitions and performances with the OnDream Ensemble alongside Korea's top faculty. Yunchan Lim, who won the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in the U.S. as the youngest winner last year, was selected as a Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Scholarship student in 2020.
The Social Integration field targets youth preparing for independence, North Korean defectors, and multicultural graduate students. This field was newly established in 2022 to expand educational opportunities for socially vulnerable groups. It helps students who wish to continue their studies after graduating from undergraduate programs to focus on their fields without financial burdens. Selected scholarship students receive full tuition, study support funds, as well as scholarships for participating in international competitions and the fellowship program, with the same benefits as other fields.
The "Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Scholarship," which nurtures talents in various fields of our society, plans to provide more opportunities to scholarship students in 2023. It will expand support for publishing papers in internationally renowned academic journals, scholarships for winners of international competitions, and scholarships for students participating in competitions. Additionally, to support growth through exchanges among scholarship students, a 3-day, 2-night camp will be held for Korean and foreign scholarship students together. At the year-end Homecoming Day, mentoring between senior and junior students will support the growth of scholarship students.
